What is a Belt Filter Press?

The Belt Filter Press (BFP) is a continuous mechanical dewatering equipment that progressively reduces sludge water content. The process takes place in three distinct zones: gravity drainage, wedge pressure zone, and high pressure roller zone.

The result is a dewatered sludge cake with 15–25% dry solids content, ready for final disposal, composting, or co-incineration.

  • Continuous operation — no interruptions and low maintenance cost
  • High solids capture efficiency (> 95%)
  • Compact cake — facilitates transport and final disposal
  • Compatible with municipal, industrial, and mixed sludge

How the Belt Filter Press works

Conditioning

Sludge is conditioned with cationic polymer to agglutinate solids and facilitate liquid-solid separation.

Gravity Drainage

Sludge distributed over the top belt loses free water by gravity — pre-dewatering phase.

Wedge Zone

The two belts converge forming a wedge that progressively compresses the sludge, expelling more water.

High Pressure

Decreasing-diameter rollers compress sludge between belts to extract maximum moisture and produce the final cake.
