Two treatment barriers in one integrated system

AquaMB Process combines two proven processes in a single integrated system: first, cloth media filtration (AquaDisk® or similar) removes suspended solids and turbidity from secondary effluent; then, ultrafiltration membranes (ceramic or polymeric Aqua MultiBore series modules) provide the absolute barrier against pathogens, protozoa, and residual colloids.

This multiple barrier concept meets the most stringent water reuse standards at municipal and industrial levels, including international standards such as WHO guidelines, EPA regulations, and European norms. Cloth media pre-treatment significantly reduces the load on UF membranes, extending their service life and reducing chemical cleaning frequency.

Maximum Reuse Safety

Dual barrier ensures removal of solids, pathogens, protozoa, and viruses for safe direct reuse.

Extended Membrane Service Life

Cloth media pre-filtration protects UF membranes, reducing fouling and CIP frequency.

International Standards Compliance

Meets the most stringent municipal and industrial reuse standards — WHO, EPA, EU 2020/741.

Process flow — from 1st to 2nd barrier

The process begins with secondary effluent passing through the cloth media filter (1st barrier), which removes remaining suspended solids and reduces turbidity below 5 NTU. The pre-filtered effluent is then directed to the ultrafiltration system (2nd barrier), where tubular membranes with 0.04 μm pores block pathogens, protozoa, and residual colloids.

The resulting permeate has turbidity below 1 NTU and is ready for direct reuse in various applications, or for an additional UV disinfection or chlorination step to meet specific microbiological standards. Both stages are automatically backwashed/cleaned by integrated PLC.

1st Barrier — Cloth Filtration

TSS removal and turbidity reduction < 5 NTU. Pre-treats effluent for the membranes.

2nd Barrier — Ultrafiltration

0.04 μm membranes block pathogens, protozoa, and colloids. Turbidity < 1 NTU.

Reuse-Ready Effluent

High-quality permeate ready for direct reuse or as pre-treatment for reverse osmosis.
